Welcome to SweetMeadows Kennel
Welcome to SweetMeadow's Portuguese Water Dogs, Lowchens, and Lagottos.  We would like to introduce ourselves and tell you something about our dogs.
We are a small family kennel, located in central Illinois.  Our dogs are a major part of our lives, and included in everything we do.

Kathy and Terra
SweetMeadow's Portuguese Water Dogs began in the fall of 1995 when Kathy brought home our Foundation girl, soon to be Ch. Timbermist's Ir A Terra CGC.  She was our first AKC champion of merit, and our first Owner-Handled Champion as well.

Lua Terra's half sister joined our family a year later, Ch. Timbermist Spooktacular Luar, "Lua".  Our first litter was whelped in July of 1998 and three of the five puppies became Champions; two were Breeder/Owner-Handled by Kathy.

Our love affair with the Lowchen breed began in 1998 at the PWDCA National Specialty in Pennsylvania.  Our first Lowchen puppy arrived in the spring of 2000. Ch. Kismet's Flexible Flyer, a chocolate & white parti-boy joined our family.  "Joey" was again Owner-Handled to his championship by Kathy.

Joey We spend countless hours with our puppies from birth, to ensure that they are well socialized, and ready to greet the world as confident dogs.  We conduct sensitivity tests each day on all puppies from day 3 to day 16.  We have found by doing this, that our puppies are very confident creatures ready to meet the outside world.  We also keep our puppies a little longer than most breeders, placing them in their forever homes at around 12 weeks of age.  It is our experience that they are far more ready to go out into the world because they have gone through their first fear period with us, and their dam, which is usually around 8-10 weeks of age.

Puppy Our puppies, prior to placement, will have all their puppy shots, be free of internal parasites, will be micro-chipped, and have a current CERF, conducted by a canine ophthalmologist to insure you that the puppy has healthy eyes.  Pets are sold on a spay/neuter written contract, including a written health guarantee, and will be AKC registered.

We strongly believe that the relationship with your dog's breeder should be a good one.  Remember this is a relationship/support group, which will last through the life of your dog.

We highly recommend a visit to our home, and spend an afternoon with us.  Visit the dam and the litter.  See temperaments first hand, and interact with the puppies. Read our contract and ask questions, lots of questions.  We appreciate your visit prior to placement.  Coming to meet us & our dogs will definitely solidify your decision to bring a SweetMeadow's puppy into your life.
